The first neo-Nazi group that formed in Russia was Russian National Unity (RNU). It formed as Pamyat, another Russian nationalist group was splitting, in 1990. This group was Russian, but had fascist viewpoints, with a slogan: “Russia for Russians and compatriots.” They were for the were for the expulsion of non-Russian immigrant and Jews. They also did a lot of work to rebuild the orthodox church.
They were a very well-organized group with a ranking system, based on the level of activities and time in the group, of the recruit or leader of the RNU. By 1993 they were a very well establish national group, with different branches all over the country.

By 1998 the group was faced with limitations when they were banned from speaking at their annual Moscow conference. The next year they were banned entirely from Moscow. The next year the group became defunct.
