After Israel built its own nuclear program, it introduced in the mid 1970’s. This was a military doctrine, where Israel, prevent its surrounding neighbors from having nuclear weapons themselves. Which has been implemented multiple times. The doctrine is said to be in place to prevent another Holocaust, but it also acts as a ground for Israel to attack other countries pursuing nuclear research, and other Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) as well. It was activated against Iraq, Syria, and Iran.
In 1981, Iraq was first country to be attacked under this doctrine, even before the world new about it during operation Opera, which was an Israeli airstrike on Iraq’s nuclear facility, Osirak. Two days after the attack, Israel took credit, for the attack claiming, that anyone who wanted to pursue, would endure the same fate.
Syria would be the next country to fall victim to this, when in 2007 Israel launched Operation Outside the Box. Just like the previous operation against a nuclear facility, it was carried out by a clandestine airstrike. This Operation was much more secretive, with none of it being brought to light by any country, until months afterwards, unlike before.
In 2009 another target would appear for the Begin Doctrine again, but this time it was Iran. Unfortunately for Israel, Iran was going to be a much more difficult target. While no airstrike has been carried out on Iran to date. Mossad, CIA, and NSA had tried to bring down their centrifuges in the Iranian nuclear program, during Operation Olympic games, when they released the Stuxnet virus.
