During the Six-Day war, Israel would attack one of its greatest allies, America, in something known as the USS Liberty incident. The USS Liberty was a converted liberty ship, that was used to collect signal intelligence data from surrounding areas.
On June 5th, at the beginning of the Six-day War America was still considered neutral, but still sent a ship, to monitor the situation. This mission was given to the USS liberty. It sailed to a position north of the Sinai Peninsula, as instructed.
On June 8th around 9 am Sinai time, Israel planes and jets flew overhead, for a spotter check. Some of the planes flew so low that the buzz from their propellers could be felt by service men on the deck. Everything seemed okay and peaceful, with some of the pilots even waiving to the American crew.
Over the next few hours Israel worked to jam the radio equipment onboard the USS Liberty. At the time, the USS Liberty had some of the most high-tech radio and signal equipment in the world, which was incredibly difficult to jam. But Israel found a way. Unknown to the crew of the USS liberty, their communications and radio equipment were jammed.
At 13:57 Sinai time Israel started an attack on the American ship, as Israeli Mirages jet fighters attacked the Liberty with 30-mm cannons and rockets. After the first wave of air attacks, A second wave of Dassault Super Mystère, under the code name “Royal Flight” attacked the ship with more cannon fire as well as with napalm. Meanwhile the only weapons the USS liberty had were four .50 cal. M2 machine guns.
Due to these attacks, most of Liberty’s communication equipment was destroyed. They tried contacting the USS America, an aircraft carrier, and requested help. 8 fighter jets were scrambled, only to be recalled back, since Linden B Johnson didn’t want America to embarrass an ally. During the attack the ship’s communication equipment was destroyed. Their American flag was destroyed, so the ship replaced it with a bigger one, to avoid the mistaken communication.

Soon torpedo boats appeared to attack the Americans. The Israeli torpedo boats asked the ship, under attack, to identify itself, for which the Liberty only was able to use a signal light to communicate with. Unfortunately, out of nervousness one of the .50 cal American machine guns opened fire, causing the Israeli torpedo boats to engage the American ship.
At 15:30 Israel says they identified the Liberty and called off the attack. Afterward they offered to help the ship, who they claimed was attacked for mistaken identity.
There was very little investigation into this, and only a small, but interesting note in Linden B. Johnson’s autobiography about the incident stating:
he accepted the Israeli explanation, minimized the affair and distorted the number of dead and wounded, by lowering them from 34 to 10 and 171 to 100, respectively.
Maybe the USS Liberty was attacked on purpose. It would be easy to use this as a false flag operation to bring America into a war, for Israel and the Jews, like other false flags in the past. The Lusitania is the best example. There is still a high probability of something like this happening again, with Tim Pool stating that if an American ship was hit with another false flag operation, “it doesn’t matter where the missile come from…”
