Over the course of the late 40’s and 50’s the MGB (Ministry of State Security) and later the KGB would attempt multiple assassinations and kidnappings of Stephan Bandera, while he was living out the later part of his life in Germany. It wouldn’t be until October 15, 1959, when they got lucky. Outside of his apartment at, Kreittmayrstrasse 7, Stephan Bandera collapsed. Bandera was rushed to the hospital and later died. A few days later Stephan Bandera was buried.
However, the investigation into Bandera’s death continued, by the German judicial bodies. Two years later on November 17, 1961, it was announced that Germany discovered the method of death and the assassin behind Banderas’s death. Bohdan Stashynsky was named as the assassin, with the use of cyanide dust being used as the murder weapon against Bandera. But Stashynsky was not unfamiliar with this type of work. Two years prior he killed Lev Rebet, another Ukrainian nationalist two years prior to the murder of Bandera.
Stephan Bandera’s family, including his wife and three kids, also had to move, fearing that the Soviets would take their lives as well. They moved to Toronto Canada, far away from any Soviet influence.
