America had always been a home for many people from Germany. Throughout America they’ve owned worked in many factories and farms. Even during the height of the great depression in America and Weimer factories were still opening up, that were run by Germans
This drew many of the immigrants from Germany to work for them. When the Fascist came to power in German, the German immigrant in America founded their own fascist party model after Germany called the Free Society of Teutonia in 1924. Originally it was formed as a social club, that was modeled after what the DAP had when they were originally setting up.
This was one of the earliest American-Nazi organizations, dating back to 1924. It was started, in October, by four German immigrants who moved to Chicago and were also members of the Nazi party. Their main goal was to recruit American Germans to follow right winged German national beliefs.
This group was much like an American version of the brown shirts, where it functioned as a type of social club. At these meetings, there would be lots of heavy drinking, along with constant conversations about politics. Many of the topics were about the Treaty of Versailles, how to protect against communism, and about antisemitism.
In 1926 the party changed it name to Nationalistic Society of Teutonia, where it functioned more as a type of recruitment ground for the German American. The group was also able to form other branches in other places such as Milwaukee, St. Louis, Missouri, Detroit, New York City, Cincinnati and Newark, New Jersey. As they grew the group was able to collect money for the Nazi in Germany which led to Hitler Thanking them. At this point the group was under the watchful eye of the FBI.
In October of 1932 the group change it name again to Friends of the Hitler Movement. The group would be dissolved the next year, but it would also lay the ground work for what would be known as the American Bunds.
